| THE MAIN
EVENTS OF THE SPRING TERM
Many of the Consultation Evenings are held
during this term for parents to meet the teachers to discuss
their son's progress.
Year 9 & 10 pupils participate in Careers
Days so that they can discover more about certain vocations
and professions. After the Y11 & 13 exams GCSE and 'A' level
exam entries are finalised.
Trips are organised to art galleries, museums
and lectures and visiting speakers provide a varied and invaluable
stimulus.
Pupils enjoy debating, Mock Trials, quizzes
and other competitions both within the school and against
other schools in the region and to National level. Charity
events take place each term in which the boys are encouraged
to raise money for needy causes - charities supported have
included the Devon Air Ambulance, Children in Need, the Salvation
Army, St Luke's Hospice and the Lady Mayoress's Appeal.
The winter sports continue and the boys Orienteer,
go Winter Mountaineering, Skiing and prepare for the demanding
Ten Tors event. Able linguists are invited to take part in
the South West Festival of Languages, the French Exchange
visit to Pont l'Abbe takes place and sixth formers have work
shadowing placements, including some in France. For a week
the boys' art work is exhibited to celebrating their creativity.
In March sixth formers attend the annual Oxbridge Conference
at DHSB.
The term ends with the major theatrical production.

illustrates the way in which the course develops. No changes
will affect the broad balance of subjects available at GCSE

about subject options.
THE SCHOOL IN THE COMMUNITY
Devonport High School for Boys has a long
tradition of working with the community. Our students offer
wide ranging community service ranging from environmental
work to helping the disabled. Local employers here and in
Brittany provide opportunities for curriculum based work and
host work experience placements, and the school benefits from
their valued sponsorship. Our facilities are open for community
use out of school hours, in the spirit of partnership.
