PUPIL TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS:

Parents are responsible for making appropriate transport arrangements to ensure that their son arrives at school safely and promptly by 8:50am each day. For Plymouth boys living more than three miles from the school the LEA provides free transport. To qualify, the distance is measured by using the shortest available route between the home and the school. Some pupils may be given free transport even where they live within the distance for special reasons, e.g. medical. However, there is now a charge per term for pupils transported to school over the age of 16 on the following basis (in 2001): Autumn Term £66 Spring Term £66 Summer Term £48 (Payment in advance of £150 for the year - saving £30, also payable in 8 installments). It is a parental responsibility to arrange for children to travel in safety between home and picking-up and dropping-off points.

Other Plymouth boys are eligible for the Top Class Identity Pass - Plymouth City Council's Concessionary Fares Scheme. This Concessionary Fares Scheme provides cheap travel for schoolchildren, who live within the City Council boundary, for journeys to and from school, as long as the journey is wholly within the City boundary. All pupils who are 15 or under at the start of the academic year, i.e. 1 September, can make use of the Scheme; those who reach the age of 16 during the school year can continue to use the Scheme until the end of that academic year i.e. 31 July. Any single journey made using the Scheme costs 40p. To make sure that everyone entitled to benefit from the Scheme can be correctly identified, the City Council now issue a pass called "Top Class Pass" for use by all pupils over the age of 14. The Pass will be free of charge but there will be a charge of approx. £8.00 made for the replacement of lost Passes. Further details of the Top Class Pass and an application form can be obtained from the school office.

The school is served by special buses information about which can be obtained from Plymouth Citybus Telephone 01752 222221 or Western National Telephone 01752 222666. More specific details of any of the transport schemes can also be obtained by ringing either of these numbers.

Where the Authority is not obliged to provide transport - including where parents choose a school other than that which serves their home address - it is the parents' responsibility to make arrangements for travel between home and school.

Many boys travel by train on the lines from Totnes, Tavistock, Calstock and Liskeard. Parents living in the Tavistock, Yelverton, Looe, Liskeard, Callington, Saltash and the South Hams areas have arranged special coaches for pupils at the Grammar Schools in Plymouth. Details are available from Plymouth Citybus, telephone 01752 222221. top
