The School grounds are an attractive and distinctive feature and provide a delightfiul setting in any season.
The Arcade

This is the architecturally most important part of the school and is 2* listed. The arches stretch for over 150m and provide a covered walkway joining the five Georgian Blocks and supports the balcony that links the buildings at first floor height. Our plans include re-introducing a doorway from the balcony into the technical gallery of the Edgcumbe Theatre at the East end.
The Sports Fields

The Stonehouse Creek tide ebbed and flowed past the school until 1974 when the area was filled to provide the five hectares of playing fields in front of the school. To the South East is a fine view of the Millbridge (formerly a toll bridge) and the spire of the Roman Catholic Cathedral (architect Joseph Hansom), to the South the former Royal Naval Hospital, and to the South West rises the delightful landscape of Mount Edgcumbe, just over the Cremyl Ferry from Stonehouse.
All Weather Sports Area
resurfaced in 2000

The large playground was completed when the old 'temporary' army huts, that had housed the school canteen from 1945 - 1999, were demolished. The area is wired ready for flood lighting, once a specialist multi sports surface can be provided for the six tennis court size area.
The Guard House
This small building now houses the school’s main electricity supply transformers.
The Caretakers’ Lodge

The former mortuary of the military hospital now provides our team of three caretakers and handyman with a base. They have not yet reported any ghosts…although there is talk of a presence in Astor Block…
