Train to Teach

School Direct

Stoke Damerel Community College School Direct (salaried) offers graduates with some post-graduate work experience, a school-based teacher training course in secondary education.

This one year training course is supported by Devonport High School for Boys and Plymouth Marjon University.

Secondary Courses Available:

• History
• Chemistry
• English
• Mathematics
• Physics

All courses are designed and delivered by Specialist Leaders of Education, with input from Plymouth Marjon University. You will receive in depth training and mentoring and will teach whole classes under the supervision of your subject mentor.

The course on completion leads to QTS. You will be placed within Stoke Damerel Community College for the majority of the year with a six week spring placement at an alternative local school.

School Experience

School experience is essential if you are interested in becoming a teacher.

You will need to gain as much practical experience as possible within a classroom environment in order to strengthen your application and prepare for potential interviews. At least two weeks work experience is compulsory before teacher training can commence.

DHSB will be taking applications for the academic year 2018/2019.
