The amount raised for the Nepalese disaster currently stands at £1450 and is rising steadily thanks to a co-ordinated series of events run by the Houses.

Well done to everyone who has organised and contributed.

Ten Tors

I had lunch with our Ten Tors team captains last Friday and I’m sure they will give a good account of themselves this weekend.

Thanks to all the staff members and our PTFA who have supported and encouraged the boys.

Student Careers Links

Each year Sue Moreton and Jenny Wall (Careers South West) offer a leadership opportunity for two volunteers from the Year 11 tutor groups to assist in careers related activities.

This year the students helped to organise ‘National Takeover Day’ (when students take over the roles of staff) and a range of speakers during National Careers Week.

They also represented their tutor group at the South West Skills Show.

Many thanks to Kieran Wong, Alex Swabey, Bernie Sadler, Joe Weeks, Fraser Cowan, Aaron Gardner, Oliver Western, Daniel Johnson, Noah Botrell, Dan Chitty, Joe Hagan-Burt, Matthew Smith and Owen Knoetze.

DHSB Mock Election

A strong Conservative win for our in-house candidate Hardy Hopkinson foreshadowed events today.

His competitors also pointed out the disparity between the total percentage of votes gained and overall representation!

Voting in the DHSB Mock Election was brisk with a 70% turnout

1st XI Football

Our 1st XI finished the season in style by competing in the final of the George Lang cup on Wednesday afternoon.

Year 8 Cricket

Our Year 8 team played well this week winning their match against Ridgeway only to be defeated by Plymstock and Coombe Dean.

Year 7 Rugby

As President of DHS Old Boys Stonehouse Sharks Rugby Club I am pleased to report that five Year 7 students were in the club’s U12 squad which recently participated at the Leicester Tigers challenge tournament in Minehead.

The club were runners up in their group only losing one game, by one try, to Droitwich who as U11s won last year’s tournament without conceding any tries.

In the semi-final the club beat the winners of the other group setting up a re-match with Droitwich in the final. The final was Droitwich’s hardest match of the season but they scored a late try to win the tournament with the Stonehouse Sharks overall runners up.

DHSB students in the squad are Tommy Woodward, Miles Gillhespy, Finn Boyhan-Irvine, Toby Laseby and Dan McVeigh.
