Following our Book Group’s selection to shadow the Baileys Prize this year, Year 7 and 8 students are working with the Carnegie Children’s Book Awards.

George Allan, one of the reading group, said, “Every Thursday we meet to talk about the thing we love – books. We recommend books we have read and we are also reading a set list of books before wel vote on our favourite. Book Club is both fun and enjoyable and is a really good club because of the teachers (Mrs Johnson and Miss Proctor).”

George and his friends are a good example of the reading culture at DHSB. I’m currently at a leadership conference in Birmingham and have taken inspiration from my surroundings while writing my third and fourth posts about the DHSB Library.

Mrs Simmonds, our Librarian, will be retiring in July after 25 years of service to the school. Our new post, Director of the DHSB Learning Commons, represents an exciting opportunity to join us.

Please take a look at these links and documents and share your thoughts and ideas with me.

Year 7 students were on duty earlier this week when they worked with our local PCSO Elaine Chadwick to monitor the speed of traffic on Paradise Road.

The students will feedback to their classes today in a lesson about road safety.
