The World Health Organisation defined health as a “state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”
It is no secret that physical activity is necessary for an individual’s development. As young people are continually developing physically and emotionally, they are especially affected by the benefits of activity and conversely the negative effects of inactivity.
At this school a culture of participation in sport and physical activity pervades each Year Group and House. Whether it is at performance level through representative teams or participation level through clubs each and every student is encouraged to find an activity in which they can become involved.
The physical emotional and social benefits of physical activity are well documented and at DHSB we nurture a culture of hard work and to take pride in our endeavours but also to show respect for others including opponents and officials. An integral part of our ethos is that we win magnanimously and lose graciously.
Sport for All is our mantra and our aim is for all students to participate in at least one form of physical activity each year. The school has benefited from considerable investment in order to achieve these targets.
