Whole School Assembly on Remembrance

Thanks are due once again to Mr Mitchell who led our whole school assembly this week on Remembrance. Mr Mitchell talked about the sacrifices made during conflict and war, especially in the Battle of Passchendaele.

Sixth Form prefects read the names of 137 Old Boys who are listed on our Roll of Honour and the whole school observed a minute of silence.

UK Youth Parliament

We’re very proud of Sixth Form student Alizeh Abdul Rahman who was selected to speak in the annual UK Youth Parliament debate in the House of Commons this afternoon. What a fabulous experience for her!

Alizeh says the whole sitting will be repeated on the BBC parliament channel from 10.00am on Sunday.

Excellent Work

Our example of excellent work this week is from Harrison Green 7E.

His English teacher, Mrs Johnson, said, “The task was to develop and improve a piece of ‘slow writing’ that we did in class about a zombie attack. Harrison’s piece was particularly good because of the imagery created, the variety of sentences used and the ambitious vocabulary.”

The sky was tranquilly quiet… When there are no fluffy clouds for comfort, no owls with their hoots, no wind to silence the loud locusts, adrenaline devours the cold atmosphere and the midnight rises a ghoulish being.

Bangs at the front door. A grotesque being, who hungers for blood. The hideous shriek of the undead- the apocalypse has begun.

A house at the end of the street has been raided; a flickering lamppost stands on the barren pavement. The lumbering zombie, at my door, breaks into my house.

Darkness…

I have a lot to learn to survive this catastrophic invasion. Although I have an airport flight so I can just retreat, I should fight back for my family’s sake, and the sake of humanity.

Windsurfing

Well done to Josie Spencer who competed in the French Nationals last weekend. Here is a picture of her in action!

Cross Country

Mr Carpenter reports from the Plymouth Schools Cross Country Championships saying, “A great effort from today’s team with lots making it through to the next round.”

Badminton

Congratulations to our U19 Badminton team who won 15 consecutive games v Heles, Tor Bridge and Lipson to finish runners up in the Plymouth Schools competition yesterday.

Basketball

Central Venue action again this week for the U13 Basketball team. This time a win against Plymstock and a narrow defeat against St Boniface.

Table Tennis

Our U16 and U13 students competed at the Plymouth Schools Table Tennis Championships on Wednesday and both teams finished in a respectable fifth place.

Rugby

A fantastic (and wet) day for the U13 team at the Plymouth Rugby Festival this week. The team finished unbeaten against eight schools and conceded only two tries.

The U15 rugby team beat Plymstock School 60 – 30 in the Plymouth Schools League.

Football

Well done to the U12 football team who secured a 5 – 2 victory against Uffculme School in the Devon Cup.

Also a good win for the Year 8 football team who finished 5 – 0 against Tavistock to progress to the next round in the national cup.

Mr Strang reports a ‘Fantastic game of football’ last Friday as the Year 11 team narrowly beat Plymstock School 1 – 0 to go into round four of the national cup.
