11 September 2015

It has been delightful to welcome back all students this week and there is an extremely positive atmosphere in school.

There was a packed Sports Hall for our first whole school assembly; my presentation slides are available here and include our school priorities and tips for success as we start the year.

Congratulations to Thomas Ringrose, Toby Roberts and Oscar Parsons, members of the U17 GB team that took part in the European Youth Ultimate Championships held in Frankfurt in August 2015.

DHSB Ultimate Coach, Mr McConnell said, “The team won the bronze medal at the championships. The tournament consisted of the ten top European teams. The GB team beat Israel, Sweden and The Netherlands but lost to France to finish second in their pool. This set up a quarter-final match against Italy which they won. They lost at the semi-final stage to Germany (who went on to win the tournament) and then beat France 11-7 in the bronze medal playoff.”

The bronze medal play off was streamed online and is available to watch here.

Pictured here are Chris Mann and Kevin Guo, two Year 8 students who created this magnificent piece of artwork over several lunchtimes last year. I was pleased to choose this for my office as it demonstrates not only artistic ability but also their commitment to collaboration and working together.

I mentioned last week that our Peer Mentors supported the Year 7 induction day at the start of term; I was able to thank them today over a special breakfast in Refuel.

I also enjoyed a sunlit dinner last evening with our new members of staff. It was good to hear about their first week at DHSB.
