As you are probably aware we pride ourselves in committing an hour each week during Wednesday mornings to celebrate the success of the DHSB community and to promote our core vision and values.
We alternate fortnightly between house assemblies and whole school assemblies.
This week Mrs Edwards led a whole school assembly about greatness, concluding with this quote, ‘Great words come from great minds. Greater words come from great hearts’.
I’d like to share some of the material she used here.
Safer Internet Day
Wednesday saw us recognise the national Safer Internet Day in school. Here is a copy of the newsletter collated by Mr Forte and Mr Shahin which was distributed to all students.
Collection for Calais
Thanks are due to the whole DHSB community for responding to our call for materials to send, via a charity based in Cornwall, to support the refugees currently at the camps in Calais. All the donations were collected this morning and will be taken to Calais during half term.
Art2Day
I was pleased to attend the preview of the Art2Day exhibition at Plymouth University last Friday.
There is outstanding work on display from students across the city including our own Harry Futcher, Alex Diamond-Rivlin, Monica Mekael and Tommy Barclay.
Please visit the exhibition if you can over half term. Admission is free.
Venue: Cube3 Gallery, Portland Square, Plymouth University
Dates: 5 February to 18 March 2016
Time: 10.00 to 17.00 Monday – Friday
German Exchange Visit
Year 12 and Year 8 students left on Wednesday to travel to our German exchange school, Kopernikus Gymnasium. We’ve already been able to enjoy sharing some photos of their activities.
Sports Update
We must congratulate and commiserate with our U15 Rugby team who played well in the national vase quarter-final against Bridgewater High School in Warrington on Wednesday.
After an early Devonport lead the opposing team proved too strong and we lost the match 20 – 3.
Sadly the team won’t be going forward to the semis but well done and congratulations to Mr Strang and the team for reaching the quarter-finals.
Well done also to students taking part in the Devon Schools Table Tennis competition at Eggbuckland Community College on Wednesday.
