18 July 2014

We’ve enjoyed fine weather in this final week and this set us up for a super Sports Day. I hope you enjoyed the live tweets from Brickfields?

We were pleased to welcome Katherine Endacott to our presentation this afternoon. Well done to the following students who set new school records.

The overall House winners Newton were announced in the final assembly to much exuberance! Thanks to all staff and student leaders for making this another great day for the school.

There’s a collection of images below.

We also said goodbye to some long-serving and esteemed colleagues in the assembly. They will be much missed. The sense of loss is always balanced with pride when colleagues move on to promoted positions and those who are retiring can reflect on a happy and successful career with the school. Our success is very much down to feeling part of a family and while departures are bittersweet we can look forward to welcoming some exciting new team members in September.

But let’s not think about the new term just yet. Have a wonderful summer break and thank you for your support in the last year.

Autocity Headlight

In other news this week two DHSB Year 10 business teams secured joint third place in the national Autocity Headlight competition.

Mr Berryman said, “They had to come up with a new car and gadget and put together a marketing campaign on how they would launch it into the market. This is a highly fought out competition and they have done themselves proud and the school.”

Sports News

Year 8 student James O’Sullivan had an excellent weekend in Nottingham representing the West Panthers in the UK U13 Boys’ Regional Festival of Hockey.

The West Panthers won all their pool games without conceding a goal. They beat West Scotland, South Wales, South Midlands and Nordest (North East) to get into the semi-final.

They beat BAH (British Asians Hockey) in the semis, but unfortunately lost to South Saxons in the final after a penalty shootout. James was rewarded for his effort by being awarded Player of the Tournament and he has been selected for the UK Lions Hockey Squad.
