DHSB football has enjoyed unprecedented success in recent weeks. From ‘the Invincibles’ award evening last Friday and a clean sweep of awards, to a ‘treble’ of cup wins for Years 7, 8 and 9 – phenomenal!

Well done to all the players, you’ve made us proud. Thank you.

Mr Grinsill has been signed elsewhere for next season but has left us with a record haul of trophies.

Does anyone have an open-topped bus we can borrow?

Young Enterprise

Our two Young Enterprise teams led by Ms Sanders and Mr Berryman also achieved great results this week.

Origin and Fusion scooped eight of the 13 awards at the presentation evening on Thursday.

Origin will be heading to the regional final in June after being named Best Overall Team.

Ms Sanders said, “Well done everyone, brilliant evening! Really proud of both our teams. Congratulations to Origin for winning overall.”

Leavers

We said a fond farewell to Year 11 and 13 this week and also our colleague, Mr Jones, who has worked alongside our Network Manager, Mr Lock, for the past six years. Mr Jones is following his heart and moving to Dundee.

We wish all our leavers the very best in the future.

School News

On the regional stage this week was our Year 10 Maths Team Challenge who took third place at the South West final. The area includes Bristol and Wiltshire and this was a very good result for the team.

Joshua Moyse, Jacob Sinnamon and Ben Adams are the latest group of Year 7 boys to complete the construction of a Greenpower Electric Car. On Wednesday after school the young engineers put their car to the test on a four lap circuit of the large playground. Jacob Sinnamon was the eventually crowned best driver with a time of 1 minute 22 seconds.

Tom Booth 8C represented the South West at a sailing competition last week. This is what he said.

“The dinghy competition was in memory of Eric Twinane who sailed and also wrote the Racing Rules book. We had to face high winds with a base wind of 25 mph gusting up to 40 mph. As I am quite a small sailor this wasn’t really my kind of wind but I am still very proud of how I did and came 47th out of 90 boats.”

Jamie Simmonds 7C played for both the Year 7 and Year 8 football teams this week.

Jamie said, “Being asked to play for the Year 8s was great. It was a fantastic opportunity that I had to take. Winning the Devon Cup was a day I’ll never forget. Also, the next day the Year 7 team won the Plymouth Cup. It was been a great year for me and can only get better.”
