Excellent Work
Mr Winstone has shared these photos from his Year 10 Chemistry class.
He said, “Year 10 students have been studying acid-base titrations as part of their Quantitative Chemistry module. They have been excellent at ensuring accurate results and working in a safe laboratory environment”.
Sparx Maths and Sparx Reader
Each week we celebrate our highest performers in both Sparx Maths and Sparx Reader, two of our core homework platforms. We are proud of all of our students who complete their homework each week to such a high standard but these six students deserve a special mention.
Well done!
Sixth Form Enrichment and Tutorial
This week, our Year 12 students spent their tutor time checking in with their tutors and focusing on revision for their upcoming mocks next week. Several needed to update their unifrog with Post 18 initial plans so we're guided in this too.
Year 13 students had a session on exam stress and revision. They discussed plenty of tips on how to handle stress: from planning and timetabling your revision, to relaxation techniques and support apps and websites.
In our enrichment period, we were lucky enough to be visited by Chris from the Ski Instructor Academy. He spoke to our sixth formers about training to be a ski instructor. He spoke about the opportunities available across Europe, Canada, Japan, New Zealand and beyond.
He also discussed the benefits of a ski season not only for making friends and having fun on the slopes but also as a well-respected, great addition to job and higher education applications.
He emphasised how fabulous opportunities in Japan are in particular!
Work Experience
We are seeking employers to host DHSB students
If there are any members of our community who own or work for a company that could host a student (or group of students) for our Work Experience weeks below, please could they contact us using wex@dhsb.org and we can see how we can get some DHSB students out into their workplaces.
Dates: 25 - 29 November 2024 and 23 - 27 June 2025.
More information about employer links and opportunities can be found at this link:-
Many thanks.
Mr Scott

Sports Update
Softball Cricket
Pictured are some of the U15 and U14 softball cricketers who represented the school yesterday in the Plymouth Schools Central Venue competition.
Well done to all the students who participated.
Golf
This week saw a first for DHSB with two teams entered in the Devon Golf schools competition held at Bigbury Golf Club.
Mr Carpenter said, “Well done to our golfers today in the Devon competition. Team one finished in fourth place and team two finished 16th out of 21 teams”.
He added, “It was a brilliant day and a good experience for the students”.
Also this week the DHSB golf club was in full swing on a lovely sunny afternoon on Tuesday after school.
Some students who attended were picking up clubs for the first time which was great to see.
Football
It was an unfortunate result for the Year 7 football team this week when they were knocked out of the Plymouth Schools Competition by Stoke Damerel at the semi-finals stage
Mr Callicott said it was a great effort from all the students taking part.
And good luck to our Year 11 football team, playing Churston away this afternoon in the Devon Cup semi-final.
