I was proud to represent DHSB alongside Tay Huq at the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award ceremony at St James’s Palace yesterday.

We met up with Old Boy Owen Rees and also raised the profile of DofE at DHSB.

The Duke asked me how many of our boys were undertaking the award and when I said 120 he was very impressed.

Will Turner and Sam Lloyd have also gained their Gold Award but could not be present at the London ceremony yesterday.

Headteacher Interviews

The Governors will be running a three day selection event to appoint my successor on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week.

We have a strong, eligible field and I wish to thank my PA Sarah Nicholson for supporting the Governing Body so ably. I’m confident they will be in a good position to make a decision next week.

Sixth Form Question Time

Sixth Form students enjoyed a question time style hustings this morning with four parliamentary candidates joining the panel. The debate was organised by Matthew Green and chaired by Hardy Hopkinson.

Many of our students were interviewed by ITV Westcountry and the footage will be shown during the evening news on Friday 6 March.

Mr Macleod said, “The candidates really enjoyed meeting our students and were keen for them to participate in the upcoming electoral campaign, after all if young people don’t join in the process then Governments are unlikely to listen to their concerns. All the candidates, regardless of party, underlined the importance of young people registering on the electoral roll…many are not.”

He added, “Candidates can be followed on Twitter.”

Sports News

Congratulations to old boy David King who has finished the indoor athletics season in style.

Within a few days he took the BUCS (British Universities) 60m hurdles title, came second at the Birmingham indoor grand prix and ran a personal best (7.71) in Metz (equal second in the UK).

Well done Dave!
