9 September 2016

Welcome back. A new year has begun for students and staff at DHSB.

The start of a new academic year gives an opportunity for reflection.

If you haven’t yet seen the special Head’s Blog published on the GCSE results day then you can read it at this link.

As a community we are striving to develop a culture of excellence and this will be our main focus this year.

‘We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit’

Aristotle

All of us, students and staff, will aim towards our goal of ensuring that ‘Everyone Succeeds’.

Year 7 and Year 12 attended school on Monday and enjoyed their induction day as these photos indicate.

It was a packed Sports Hall on Tuesday when all our students returned and we met together for our first whole school assembly. Each House held their introductory assembly on Wednesday.

The key messages which were shared are available here.

New Staff

We are pleased to welcome five new members of staff this term.

Mr Briars (English), Miss Gibb (Science), Mrs Edwards (Exams Officer), Mr Braun (Science), Miss McCullar (Science)

Site Update

The summer holidays works this year included a refurbishment of the Sixth Form Centre and Refuel 6. This was made possible due to generous donations from the PTFA and an old boy who travelled from London to visit us last term.

DHSB Calendar

Many of you have already ordered and received a copy of our new A4 academic calendar, which can be hung on the wall or used as a desk pad and is dated from September 2016 to August 2017.

The photos for each month have all been taken by our students.

The calendar is printed with week A and week B, and key dates, such as parents evenings, non-pupil days, school holidays, mufti days and PTFA events.

The cost of the calendar is only £6.50. You can order as many calendars as you wish and payment can be made via WisePay under ‘school shop/miscellaneous sales’.

I was pleased to meet the students who have a photograph featured in the calendar this week.

Thanks to the PTFA and Mrs Armstrong who designed and produced this publication.
