1 December 2017

Today the students became teachers for the Children’s Commissioner Takeover Day across the country.

Together with the 2017 DHSB Takeover Team I watched over a jubilant day.

What was it like to be Headteacher?

Opportunities never come knocking twice; today was an invaluable experience and a chance to understand the school.

From Leadership Group briefings to Year 7 carol service rehearsal, this busy day of tasks has developed my skills in leadership, team-work and management. New opportunities and challenges have brought experience as well as fun.

Special Fundraising Day

We’re planning a day of charity events to support Year 11 student Simon Gerry.

The whole school will be fundraising for Simon’s chosen charities during a special day of events on Wednesday 6 December 2017 and we’d like to ask for your support.

The school and Simon will be raising funds for two charities, Clic Sargent and the Teenage Cancer Trust.

One way of raising money is through the whole-school raffle taking place. We’d like to thank all those who have donated prizes and sold raffle tickets.

Curriculum Challenge Week

After speaking with many students regarding CCW, overall the outcome was extremely positive.

Greg Robinson 10C who was on the Ten Tors selection and training said that he gained, “key skills in navigation, team-working and survival skills which taught me that persistence always pays off”.

Growth Mindset

After taking over as Headteacher I was intrigued about how the school functioned, and why ‘Everyone Succeeds’.

I arranged to meet Mr Forte, Director of the Learning Commons and we began discussing new ideas of integrated learning and having education of a different light. Growth mindset.

A new idea that we will be promoting to new students joining the school; working with students in innovative ways creates depth of understanding and strong motivation to learning.

Excellent Work

In Year 7, students were given to task to study ‘A Christmas Carol’. A particular student’s work that stood out was Freddie Cozens 7N. His essay focuses on the development of Scrooge’s personality as he ages across staves one and two.

Mr Briars, his English teacher, said, “I was really impressed by how Freddie is beginning to structure paragraphs and include keyword analysis. It was completed in lesson than an hour too”.
