Well done to Aidan Ricketts, Sam Nicholls, Nicholas Hodge and Matthew Williams who represented DHSB at the English Chess Federation Team Challenge held at Torquay Boys School recently.
The team narrowly missed out on a place in the next round with Aidan doing particularly well to win all his matches.
They are pictured here in the Learning Commons.

Chess was also on the breakfast menu this week as Mr Butcher set up an on-line match with students competing against our partner school Shining Stars in Kathmandu as part of our Connecting Classrooms British Council programme.
Honours were shared with each school winning a game.
Plymouth Employability Passport
Last week saw the Plymouth Employability Passport gaining ground. The passport started as the DHSB Award (developed by our own Sue Moreton) to allow students to realise or achieve different skills, recognising that often what they are already doing is valuable, and to reward them for evidencing these achievements.
This idea was adopted by the Plymouth Learning Trust group of schools and developed with the help of the Plymouth City Council and the Chamber of Commerce.
Last week Ms Moreton took three of our Year 10 students to City College where the 1000 club (1000+ local employers) had provided a video booth to make a film promoting the passport. Our boys all spoke about the importance of developing and recognising employability skills.
The following day eight boys, again Year 10 students who are enrolled for the Passport trial met Tudor Evans, the leader of the City Council who spoke to them reinforcing the importance of employability skills alongside exam results, and of his passion for promoting the opportunities available to young people in Plymouth.

They came up against some strong competition and finished fourth out of the eight teams competing.
Well done to Tom Blackford who represented Devon at the English Schools Cross Country Championships last weekend. It’s a significant achievement to be selected to compete at this level.
