5 January 2018

Welcome back to school and Happy New Year.

There is already much to share from our school community with updates from the end of last term and our first week back.

In December Winstanley House coordinated a collection for the Plymouth Foodback which was delivered to their premises in Union Street just before Christmas.

We have received a letter of thanks from Katy Bartlett at the Foodbank.

Also at the end of last term the DHSB Brass Group performed at the Plymouth Music Festival winning the Jenny Shepley Instrumental Cup.

Well done to all students involved and their teacher, Mr Hollick.

Well done also to Sixth Form student Alizeh Abdul Rahman who has used the Fixers campaign website to highlight the benefits of teaching RE in schools.

Alizeh said, “Religious education is not just about learning about the main faiths. It teaches you about the world we live in and the sort of issues that we see in the news and contemporary issues that concern a lot of people”.

Ms Davidson said it was good to hear Alizeh representing the views of many of her peers.

It may be the first week back in school but a full tutorial programme was in place and delivered to all year groups. You will be able to read a complete round-up in Ms Moreton’s own blog which is published every Monday morning.

The programme included first aid, online security and sexting advice and the Year 6 Transition Challenge presentations (seen here).

We also held the Year 8 Curriculum Evening last night, led by Mr Adams and subject staff.

This comment is indicative of how parents and families felt after the event.

“Many thanks for the Yr 8 curriculum evening last night. It was most helpful and feels slightly less daunting now”.

Excellent Work

Year 10 exams started today with the Art exam being held in A Block. Mr Head reports that all has gone smoothly with some excellent work being created. Year 10 students will have their timetables for next week.

And finally, a reminder that it was Campbell House who lifted the St Levan Shield at Speech Day at the end of 2017. Congratulations to Campbell.
